Arunachal Assembly Election: CM Pema Khandu becomes richest candidate

Guwahati, Apr 5 (IBNS): The Arunachal Pradesh assembly election will see 131 crorepati candidates in the electoral fray out of 184 candidates with Chief Minister Pema Khandu becoming the richest one.

The crorepati candidates are 71 percent of the total candidates contesting in 60 assembly constituencies.

Before voting, three BJP candidates have already declared winner unopposed and voting will be held for remain 57 seats on Apr 11 simultaneously with two Lok Sabha seats in the north east frontier state.

Among the crorepati candidates, Khandu emerged as the richest candidate with declared assets of Rs 163.50 crore.

Khandu, son of former Arunachal Pradesh CM Late Dorjee Khandu, is contesting from Mukto assembly constituency in Tawang district.

The Chief Minister has declared his assets in an affidavit submitted with his nomination papers.

He declared his movable assets worth Rs 143,87,82,786 and immovable assets worth Rs 19,62,75,356.

The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s assets have been increased by Rs 33.93 crore in last five years.

In 2014, he declared his assets worth Rs 129.57 crore.

On the other hand, Lombo Tayeng, Congress candidate for Mebo seat in East Siang district, has become second richest candidate with assets worth Rs 148,54,05,994 and his assets worth Rs 1,31,41,31,428 have been increased in last five years.

In 2014, he declared his total assets worth Rs 17,12,74,566.

Khandu’s brother Tsering Tashi, BJP candidate for Tawang assembly constituency has declared his assets worth Rs 109,43,93,772.

Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who is contesting from Sagalee seat on Congress ticket, has declared his total assets worth Rs 100,19,39,533 and his assets worth Rs 88,63,46,269 have been increased in last five years.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who is contesting from Chowkham seat in Namsai district, has declared his assets worth Rs 64,70,52,762.

Among the crorepati candidates, 54 from BJP, 30 from Congress, 21 from NPP, 11 from JD (U), 7 from JD (S).

Five Independent candidates have declared their assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

On the other hand, Congress candidate Dayum Para, who is contesting from Tali constituency, has declared zero assets and Rs 5,000 cash in hand.

It is to be mentioned that, a total of 88 crorepati candidates were contesting in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly polls in 2014.
