Cong demands removal of Raj Governor Kalyan Singh by President on MCC violation

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Congress has demanded removal of Kalyan Singh as Rajasthan Governor after the Election Commission wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind pointing to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation by him.

“Under Article156 of the Constitution, Governor Kalyan Singh can be removed by the President of India. Once Election Commission of India has found violation of the Model Code and forwarded the same to the President, Governor must be removed”, tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.

The Congress spokesperson also said that the party has sought time with the President to state “this clear position”.

President Kovind on Thursday forwarded to the Central Government an Election Commission report on alleged violation of MCC by Mr Singh.

The report was sent to the President’s office by the Election Commission.

While addressing BJP workers in a meeting in Aligarh on Apr 2, Singh is reported to have said that Mr Modi should become the Prime Minister again.

Since the MCC is in place and Singh holds a Constitutional position, the Commission referred the matter to the President.
