Karnataka CM says Congress conspiring against JD(S) candidate in Mandya
Bengaluru, Apr 5 (IBNS): Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday accused coalition partner Congress of conspiring to defeat his son and JDS nominee Nikhil in the Mandya Lok Sabha seat.
Speaking to reporters, the CM accused the Congress of being in a nexus with Independent candidate Sumalatha, wife of late Congress leader Ambareesh, instead of working for Nikhil.
"There are developments that have gone out of hand in Mandya. The independent candidate has got widespread support. She may appear as an independent but she has got the support of Congress, BJP and Raita Sangha (farmers' association). All of them have joined hands to trample JD(S)," he said.
Mandya goes to polls on April 18.
"Somewhere some 'chakravyuha' has been hatched but the people of Mandya, those toiling populace, have already taken a decision (to elect Nikhil)," Kumaraswamy said.
'Chakravyuha' is a deadly battle formation as referred to in the epic Mahabharata.
Reacting to the CM's comment, Sumalatha said it was the JD(S) that was playing dirty tricks on her.
"The JD(S) have fielded three other candidates with the name Sumalatha against me. They are wearing glasses, necklace and attire like me in the photograph submitted in their affidavit," she told reporters.
The BJP is backing the Independent Sumalatha and not fielding their own candidate.
