New Delhi, Apr 17 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited Wayanad and offered prayers in memory of his late family members.

Wayanad is a significant place for Rahul Gandhi as it is in this hill town where the ashes of his late father, former PM Rajiv Gandhi, were immersed.

Gandhi is also contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad this time.

He filed his nominations papers from the seat recently.

He will also fight the polls from Amethi seat in UP.

He is a sitting MP from the Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi shared several images of his visit to Wayanad on Twitter on Wednesday.

He captioned the post as: "Today I visited the Thirunelli Temple in Wayanad, Kerala. This beautiful temple & its surroundings are an oasis of peace & serenity. Standing besides the Papanasini, where my father’s ashes were immersed in 1991, brought back fond memories of him & our time together."
