Srinagar, Apr 19 (UNI) Train service resumed on Friday after remaining suspended in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a general strike on Thursday when polling was held in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, spread over three central Kashmir districts of Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal.
"We have resumed train service in the valley after receiving a fresh advisory on Thursday," a senior railway official told UNI this morning.
Therefore, he said, trains will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir tracks on Fiday. Similarly, trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, he added.
He said railway department is acting on the advice of local administration, particularly police, who are taking the decision to suspend or resume train service after taking into consideration the safety and security of passengers, rail employees and property. In the past railway suffered heavy damage due to demonstrations in the valley.
The train service has become very popular in the valley as it is being considered cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport in the valley.
