Formed alliance with BJP for development of Marathwada: Thackrey

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Apr 20 (UNI) Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that the Sena formed alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for development of Marathwada and Maharashtra.

Addressing a campaign rally at Marathwada Sanskrutik Mandal Ground here on Friday night for Sena candidate Chandrakant Khaire, Thackeray referred to the criticism he faced for doing a U-turn on not going with the BJP, and said, "I have formed alliance with the BJP for the welfare of Marathwada and Maharashtra."

Hitting out at NCP chief Sharad Pawar statements on Shiv Sena's pre-poll pact with BJP, Mr Thackeray pointed out that he left the Congress twice, and formed alliance with the (then) Sonia Gandhi-led party even though he criticised the leadership earlier.

Thackeray said," Mr Pawar left Congress abusing Rajiv Gandhi and pledged that he would never join Congress till the end. He is black at heart. Pawar later formed alliance with the Congress."

The Sena, which frequently attacked its alliance partner BJP in the last four and a half years, nevertheless chose to form alliance with the saffron party again ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Mr Thackeray said, "When Pawar was agriculture minister why he was not able to resolve issues of farmers and how many relief packages announced by him for the farmers of this region."

"The opponents criticised us that we are not concerned about drought but I want to assure all of you that Sena will definitely provide relief to affected farmers of the region," he added.

The Aurangabad constituency will go to polls on April 23 in third phase.
