Bhopal, Apr 21 (UNI) In the wake of remarks vis-a-vis Indian Police Service officer Hemant Karkare who was martyred during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhopal parliamentary constituency candidate Pragya Singh Thakur is again a subject of discussion over her statement on the Ayodhya issue.

The District Returning Officer issued a notice on Saturday to Ms Thakur who is to submit a clarification within a period not exceeding a day. Similar action was taken earlier in the context of the statement on Mr Karkare. In that matter, criticism made her retract her words and tender an apology. The second notice mentions Ms Thakur’s comments on a television channel and states that these appear to violate the Model Code of Conduct.

As per the document, the nominee said, “We shall construct an imposing Ram temple. We went to demolish the (previous) structure, I climbed onto it and brought it down and am tremendously proud about it. The Almighty granted me strength. We have removed the country’s blemish.”

A related video is going viral and in it Ms Thakur is heard saying, “What disputed structure? Nobody can prevent me from constructing a majestic shrine.”
