Kashmir: Life returns to normal

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI): Life returned to normal on Wednesday after remaining affected due to general in the Kashmir valley, where Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a general strike to protest against alleged ill-treatment to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and other separatist leaders, businessmen and others by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate.

Shops and business establishments reopened and traffic was plying on all routes normally in the summer capital, Srinagar, where additional personnel of state police and Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) remained deployed to prevent any demonstration. Security forces also remained deployed in Maisuma, stronghold of Malik and nearby areas to maintain law and order.

Business and other activities resumed this morning in main business hubs of historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, Budshah Chowk, Regal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street (HSHS), Batmaloo and Dalgate.

Life also returned to normal in this and other main towns and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir districts, a report from Baramulla said. Business and other activities resumed and traffic was plying on all roads.

Shops and business establishments also reopened and traffic plying on roads in this and other south Kashmir towns and tehsil headquarters, a report from Shopian said. Life was also normal in Anantnag, where polling was held in six assembly segments in Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency yesterday.

Reports of normalcy were also received from central Kashmir districts of Budgam and Ganderbal.
