Uchahar, Rae Bareli, Apr 27 (UNI) Terming demonetisation and GST moves as foolish acts, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that both the decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi derailed the country's economy, which was unprecedented in last 70 years.
He further said that nobody did something as foolish as demonetisation and "Gabbar Singh Tax" (GST).
"Not a single youth in the country can say --Yes, chowkidar gave me employment," he said while addressing an election meeting in his mother Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency on Saturday.
“We (Congress) didn’t commit a mistake like demonetisation during the long rule,” he added.
The Congress president claimed that unemployment rate in the country was highest in last 45 years.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has betrayed the people of India especially the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi," he said.
"Ten lakh youths can be given jobs in panchayats. The moment Congress comes to power, we will hand over these jobs to the youths," Mr Gandhi said.
"I want to ask the youths of Rae Bareli, how much job generation has "chowkidar" done for you."
"Whatever we tried doing for you all, Narendra Modi Government stopped us from doing that, " he said.
Giving an example, Congress president said,"If a farmer in Rae Bareli takes a loan of Rs 20,000 and is not able to pay it back, he is put in jail. But, what about Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi," he asked.
Earlier, Mr Gandhi met his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Kanpur airport where both clicked a photo which was posted on the Twitter.
Both Rahul and Priyanka are on a day-long campaigning in UP.
Responding to the opposition's criticism that the noteban had hit the economy, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that he was being targeted as influential people in the real estate business, close to Congress, were hit hard.
