What rubbish, all know Rahul Gandhi was born and raised in India: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tells on citizenship issue
New Delhi, Apr 30 (IBNS): At a time when the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi to explain his alleged British Citizenship, the Congress president's sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday rejected the claims and said his brother was 'born in India'.
"Everyone knows that Rahul Gandhi was born and raised in India. He is an Indian," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told reporters when she was asked to comment on the matter.
Rejecting the claims made on Rahul Gandhi's citizenship, Priyanka said: "What rubbish is this?"
Priyanka made the comment while visiting Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency Amethi.
In the middle of the Lok Sabha polls, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi to explain his alleged British Citizenship, media reports said.
BJP MP Subramanian Swamy had complained against Gandhi's British citizenship.
A letter by BC Joshi, Director, Citizenship, Home Ministry, has been quoted by NDTV, "I am directed to say that this ministry has received a representation from Dr Subramanian Swamy, in which it has been brought out that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in the year 2003, with address 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH and that you were one of the directors and secretary of the said company."
"It has been further brought out in the complaint that in the company's annual returns filed on October 10, 2005 and 31 October, 2006, your date of birth has been given as June 19, 1970 and that you had declared your nationality as British."
Swamy had first raised the issue in 2015 but a year later Gandhi accused the BJP MP of misleading the nation.
BJP aasks Rahul Gandhi to clarify the matter:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether he is a British after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sent notice to the opposition leader to explain whether he is a citizen of England within 15 days.
"Rahul Gandhi should clarify whether he is British or not. Which Rahul is original? Rahul of London or Rahul of Lutyens?" BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.
"This is the story of three Cs – Citizenship, Confusion and Clarification. These questions raised by MHA are based on authenticated documents," added the BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Puri.
