Mumbai, May 1 (UNI) Maharashtra Vidyasagar Rao on Wednesday strongly condemned the Maoist attack in Gadchiroli district and conveyed his deepest condolences to the kin of the police personnel who lost their lives in the attack.

In a message, the Governor said, "I was shocked and deeply saddened to know about the Naxal attack in Gadchiroli district in which some of our bravest police personnel lost their lives."

"I condemn the dastardly Naxal attack in the strongest words. I send my deepest condolences to the next of kin of the police personnel martyred in the attack, " he added.

As a mark of respect for the martyrs, the Governor cancelled the reception and cultural programme organised on eve of the 59th anniversary of Maharashtra Day at Raj Bhavan here.

At least 16 security personnel of C-60, an anti-Maoist squad of Gadchiroli police, were killed on Wednesday in an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) explosion triggered by the ultras in Gadchiroli district.
