Tura (Meghalaya), May 6 (UNI): Meghalaya’s National People’s Party (NPP) legislator S.G. Esmatur Mominin on Monday requested power minister James Sangma to relax the load shedding timings to allow faithful to observe Ramadan without any inconvenience.
Ramadan started from Sunday and will continue possibly till June 5.
Mominin has sought a relaxation of load shedding timings from 1 am to 4 am in the morning and 4 pm to 9 pm for the entire state of Meghalaya through the duration of the above-mentioned dates.
Meanwhile, Anti Corruption and Human Development Organization (ACHDO) has echoed the thoughts of their MLA and asked for relaxation of the shut down for the sake of people who are fasting.
“There are many who have to bear the daily heat and need time to break their fast when load shedding begins. For the sake of many, we request the department concerned to kindly pay heed to the needs of the people,” ACHDO president, Ishraful Haque said.
Furthermore, the NGO asked for a check on prices of goods alleging that traders were trying to make a fast buck at the expense of people during Ramadan.
“Beef was being sold at Rs 250 a kg but has now shot up to Rs 400. This has been done without any justification or discussion and as such is illegal,” the NGO said.
