Assam: 12 persons injured in Guwahati blast

Guwahati, May 16 (IBNS):  At least 12 people were injured as a blast rocked Guwahati city on Wednesday.

A grenade blast took place in front of Guwahati Central Shopping mall, Zoo road in the capital city of Assam last night.

Initially, the Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that seven persons, including two SSB jawans, were injured in the explosion, but later the number of injured persons rose to 12 and Assam junior health minister Pijyush Hazarika has confirmed it.

Among the injured persons, five are admitted at Guwahati Medical College Hospital while five are in KGMT hospital and two in Nemcare hospital.

“12 persons were injured and one is little bit of serious injuries and others have received minor injuries. Who had done it, they don’t want to let the people live in peace. All injured persons will get free treatment and everything will be done properly. Two SSB jawans were also injured. The Assam government will definitely take serious action against the culprits and the culprits will be nabbed very soon,” Pijush Hazarika said.

Earlier, banned outfit group United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) took responsibility for the blast.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that, Assam police will not spare anyone, who are involved in the incident.

“We have already launched massive operations against the attackers and hope we will get success very soon,” the Assam DGP said.
