Guwahati blast: Police arrest two including pro-talk ULFA leader

Guwahati, May 16 (IBNS): The Guwahati city police on Thursday arrested two persons including a pro-talk leader of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in connection with Wednesday's grenade explosion in Guwahati.

According to the reports, police arrested an Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia and pro-talk ULFA leader Pranmoy Rajguru for their alleged involvement in the blast.

Police also recovered huge quantity of explosive, arms-ammunition, ULFA letter, pads and other bomb-making items from a house, where the lady was living.

Based on intelligence input, city police raided at the house no 10 at Namghar path near Panjabari area and recovered about 20 kg suspected explosive, one 9mm pistol with 25 rounds ammunition and other bomb-making items from the house.

The arrested woman is known to be closed with pro-talk ULFA leader Pranmoy Rajguru.

Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar said that police have already tracked the blast details and all the culprits will be arrested soon.

“When we received information from the intelligence about three-four people had triggered the explosion and they are living in a house at Panjabari Bagharbori area, we launched operation today morning. During the operation, we had arrested a person named Pranmoy Rajguru, who joined ULFA in 1986 and a 40-year-old lady Jahnabi Saikia. We had recovered one 9mm pistol, 25 rounds ammunition, some ULFA related documents, literature, bomb-making machines and 20 kg gun powder from there. During interrogation, we got information that how they took the grenade, who lobbed it, what are the logistic supports etc. We have already tracked the explosion details. We have received information about who was involved in the incident. Our investigation is going on and we will arrest more people,” Deepak Kumar said.

At least 12 persons including two security personnel were injured in an explosion took place in front of Guwahati Central shopping mall, Zoo road.

It is to be mentioned that, just a few minutes after the blast, ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah had claimed responsibility of the explosion.
