Jammu and Kashmir: All roads leading to historic Jamia Masjid closed
Srinagar, May 17 (UNI) All roads leading to historic Jamia Masjid in the down town Srinagar were closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration on Friday, when separatists have called for a general strike against civilian and militant killings during this Holy month of Ramadhan.
Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) and state police have been deployed in the Jamia Market around the historic worship place since early this morning to prevent assembly of people.
The main gates of Masjid were also closed and security force bunker vehicles have been parked to prevent people from entering the worship place, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, who is addressing Friday's congregation every week.
Security forces have closed main road leading to Masjid, including at Rangar Stop, Nowhatta and Gojwara.
Security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in these areas to foil any demonstration.
However, there was no restriction in any part of the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in response to separatist call. However, some private vehicles, including two wheelers were seen plying on some routes.
This was the first time the gates of historic worship place were closed since the start of the Holy month of Ramadhan.
