Narendra Modi set for second term as Prime Minister of India, predict majority of exit polls

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 19 May 2019, 03:17 pm

New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS): The BJP's highly emotive campaign focussed on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and nationalism appears to have convinced voters and won the NDA a second consecutive term at the Centre, if the exit polls results beamed by various news channels after the end of the last round of elections are any indications.

Most exit polls indicate the NDA would win over 300 seats while the UPA would end up with something around 127. The aligned parties are expected to get around 115 seats.

The BJP had initially focussed their campaign around the Balakot air strike following the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans. In the course of the campaign, the BJP gradually started focussing on nationalism and fully used their publicity machinery to project Narendra Modi as the strong leader without match who was the perfect person to lead India for the next five years.

EXIT POLLS AT A GLANCE:

Times Now:

BJP-led NDA: 306
Cong-led UPA: 132
OTHERS: 104

News18-IPSOS Exit Poll

BJP led NDA will get between  292 and 312 seats out of the 483 up for grabs in the first six phases of polling alone. The BJP is expected to bag 242-252 seats, with allies making up the other 50-60 seats. The News18-IPSOS Exit Poll says Congress will be reduced to a tally of 32-37 seats in the first six phases. Its allies are predicted to get another 30-35 seats, for the total UPA tally to be around 62-72 seats, based on the surveys.

Jan Ki Baat projections:

NDA - 295 to 315 (305) - BJP - 254 to 274 (264)
UPA -.122 to 125 (124) - Indian National Congress - 71 to74 (72)
Others -.102 to125 (113)

Even though the Congress managed to make the BJP jittery with its NYAY scheme that promises Rs 72,000 to every poor family, if the exit polls are to be believed, it evidently, did not make the desired impact.

Even in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP will apparently not lose as many seats as expected. Exit polls show the BJP and its allies will retain 46 of its 80 seats.

In Bengal, the BJP is predicted to break into double figures. The Nielson exit poll shows it winning 14 seats while Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress wins 24.

Mamata has, however, tweeted to say she does not believe in exit polls. She said: "I don’t trust Exit Poll gossip. The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip."

"I appeal to all Opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together," she said.

In Odisha, which voted for both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls together, the BJD and BJP are neck-to-neck with 10 seats each.

In Delhi, BJP is predicted to win all the seven seats.

According to a national TV channel, the BJP will win all of Gujarat's 26 Lok Sabha seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is back from a trip to the holy Kedarnath and Badrinath temples, this evening tweeted his wishes to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who just won the election there.

"Heartiest congratulations @ScottMorrisonMP on your victory in the elections. We wish the people of Australia all success under your dynamic leadership. And, as strategic partners we look forward to continue working together closely to further strengthen our relationship," he wrote.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said: "Every single exit poll can’t be wrong! Time to switch off the TV, log out of social media & wait to see if the world is still spinning on its axis on the 23rd."
