Odisha Congress leader Jagannath Patnaik resigns from party's election committee
Sambalpur, May 22 (UNI): Veteran Congress leader and former minister Jagannath Patnaik today resigned from the convenor of the coordination committee and also a member of the Odisha Pradesh Election Committee (PEC).
Talking to reporters here, Mr Patnaik said he was not satisfied with the selection of candidates both for Assembly and parliament seats all over the state.
There was every prospect for Congress to improve in Odisha but the party will be now satisfied with the third position in the state and he attributed it to the mismanagement by a coterie in the party.
The senior Congress leader said there must be an enquiry and responsible must be fixed for those responsible for such debacle in the party.
He further said that the message of Rahul Gandhi did not reach the voters of the state. “The impact of neighbouring Chhattisgarh was sure to act in Odisha and western region in particular. But our leaders couldn’t reap the benefits,” he said.
The senior Congress leader made it clear that although he had resigned from the two committees, he would never leave the Congress stating that he has got a long association with this age-old party."
On party ticket for Sambalpur Assembly constituency, he said injustice has been done to senior leader Aswini Guru who was first declared as the party candidate to contest the election but later denied ticket.
