Rahul Gandhi trailing by 1300 votes in his bastion Amethi but leads in Wayanad

New Delhi, May 23 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi is currently facing the heat in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi seat where he is trailing from Bharatiya Janata Party's Smriti Irani as counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is currently going on Thursday.

As per latest reports, Gandhi, who is a sitting MP from Amethi, is trailing by 1300 votes.

Gandhi had defeated Smriti in Amethi in 2014.

This time, Gandhi is contesting the polls from another seat in Wayanad.

He is comfortably leading in the southern constituency.

According to Election Commission of India website, Gandhi is leading by 1,24, 537 votes over his nearest rival P P Suneer of CPI at 1045 hours in Wayanad.

Wayanad has been chosen by Gandhi as his second seat, as the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) gifted him a "sure-seat" for their Prime Ministerial candidate.

The high-profile campaigning by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has increased manifold the already predicted pro-UDF election outcome in Kerala.

All the exit polls also indicated a massive win by the UDF in Kerala, with a record victory margin in Wayanad, possibly over two lakhs.

Neither the NDA candidate Thushar Vellappalli nor the CPI nominee Suneer, representing the LDF, could withstand the huge Congress wave in Wayanad coinciding with the candidacy of the Congress supremo.
