Haryana: Criminals open fire in Karnal to free undertrial, two cops injured

Karnal, May 28 (UNI) Two Haryana police personnel sustained injuries when three motorcycle-borne criminals opened fire at a police party near the New Bus Stand Indri Road here and freed an undertrial from its custody on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the personnel of Yamunanagagr police were taking back undertrial Sunil alias Kheera, an accused in a murder case, from Karnal to Yamunanagar after a court hearing. Sunil, a resident of Bahadad village falling under Matloda police station in Panipat, is a convict in dacoity case and undergoing trial in five other heinous cases.

Sub-Inspector Surinder Singh and Constable Sandeep suffered injuries in the firing by three criminals, who sprayed pepper on polilceman Vinod and escaped with undertrial Sunil.

Meanwhile, the police have announced a reward of Rs one lakh for providing any information for the arrest of Sunil alias Kheera and his three other assailants who shot and injured two police officials escorting Sunil at Karnal.
The injured cops have been given proper medical attention. Karnal SP and other officers reached the spot immediately after the incident, he added.

Director General of Police Manoj Yadava instructed the Police to intensify raids to nab all four criminals at the earliest. Haryana Police has formed several teams to nab the accused and all would be behind the bars very soon, the spokesman said.
