Modi to do a 'Madison-Square' sequel in Australia
New Delhi, Oct 20 (IBNS): Come November, the world may see a sequel of Narendra Modi's historical Madison Square speech, this time in 'Down Under', when Prime Minister visits Australia, media reported.
According to Mnistry of External Affairs, Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Australia for G-20 summit in the second half of November. The summit, to be held on 15 and 16 November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in Queensland, will be a significant meeting of world leaders. Apart from that, Modi will also address a special joint session of the Australian Parliament during his visit. He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. In this regard, Modi will be making history in a way. Modi’s trip to “Down Under”, which will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly three decades after former prime minister Late Rajiv Gandhi had visited the country in 1986. Australian lawmakers are very much eager to receive Modi to their Parliament who is expected to deliver his historic address in Hindi like he has done in the past in other parts of the world. "I think it shows that he is bringing the respect, the culture and strengths of India to Australia. And I think it is important that he makes this journey to our country," media quoted Lisa Singh, 42-year old Indian-origin Labor Senator from Tasmania as saying.
But that is not all. If media reports are to be believed, efforts are on to arrange a Madison Square like event for the Indian diaspora there. It has been learnt that, event is being hosted by the Indian Australian Community Foundation (IACF), a coalition of diverse Indian-Australian organisations, to welcome the Indian prime minister. "The Sydney event is the only community address that Prime Minister Modi will be delivering during his Australian tour. It holds significance as it is occurring when an Indian prime minister is visiting Australia after 28 years," Ramyavaran Ramaswamy, one of the main organisers from IACF, is quoted by Aus media as saying. "Within three days of opening registration, over 250 community organizations, representing the Indian diaspora's broad spectrum of cultural, linguistic and charitable organisations have registered to be a 'Reception Partner' for the event. In many other senses, it will be bigger than the Madison Square event of the U.S." he added.
Modi’s Madison Square event in the New York City has a huge hit. Not only in the US, but the entire world media was attracted to it. Keeping that in mind and to ensure Modi’s charismatic appearance yet again, the organizers are leaving no stone unturned. As per media reports, the event which is expected to be participated in by over 15,000 people, will take place at Sydney's famous Olympic Park. "The huge enthusiasm of Indians living in Australia for Prime Minister Modi and the much talked about Modi Wave in elections has encouraged us to organise such an event in a short period of time," IACF official Balesh Singh Dhankhar is reported by media. The event will be participated in by members of the Indian diaspora, top members of the Australian polity and eminent personalities from different areas like academics, business and sports, said IACF Chairperson Nihal Agar to Aus media. "Though we have got less than a month's time to prepare, we are working hard across many areas in seeking sponsorship to ensure a successful event. The Madisan Square organisers are believed to have got over two months time for their arrangements,” he added.
