Jaishankar is only the second career diplomat to become foreign minister after Natwar Singh.
Mr Singh, who had joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1953 and served for 31 years, was external affairs minister under Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2005.
Addressing a seminar on June 6, Jaishankar has said contrary to general perception, he is not the first retired IFS officer to become foreign minister and that he was the second after his illustrious predecessor Natwar Singh.
Jaishankar also met Arunachal Pradesh Governor B.D. Mishra here.
