Barrackpore, Jun 14 (UNI): BJP activist Saraswati Das ( 42) was today shot dead from close range at her Tokipur village home in North 24 Parganas' Hasnabad area, a day after West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi appealed to the four main political parties to help restore peace in the state.
The husband of the deceased, an active worker of BJP's Amlani panchayet, alleged that his wife had been receiving threats. Her bullet riddled body was found in their house when he returned from the daily market. She received at least nine bullets and was declared brought dead at Taki Grameen hospital.
The local BJP leadership said the crime was committed by the TMC activists, which was denied by the ruling party.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and the police are investigating the case.
The political murder took place a night after Mr Keshari presided a meeting with leaders of TMC, BJP, Congress and CPI(M) to ensure violence ended in the state that has been on the boil since May 19, the last day of Lok Sabha election.
