Women thrashed in Muktsar: AAP demands strong action against accused

Muktsar, Jun 16 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded strong action against those accused of thrashing two women in this district of Punjab.

On Friday, a woman was allegedly dragged out of her home and kicked by a group of men, including the brother of a Congress leader, over a loan.

An elderly woman, who tried to stop the men from thrashing her, was slapped and pushed away, police said.

Addressing mediapersons after meeting the victims at the hospital here, AAP senior leaders Sandhwan and Aman Arora (both MLAs), who were accompanied by local leaders of the party, including area in charge Kaka Brar, criticised 'deteroriating' law and order in the state.

Accusing the Punjab government of turning a blind eye to the safety and security of the people of the state, especially the womenfolk, they demanded that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who also holds the Home Affairs portfolio, should tender his apology to the victims and the entire woman race and order arrest of those behind the grievous assault.

They promised to extend all legal assistance to the victims, if need be, saying the party would stand beside the family through thick and thin.
 
According to the police, the woman was assaulted after an argument over money between her and the wife of one of the accused.

The victim owed Rs 23,000 to Suresh Chaudhary, councillor Rakesh Chaudhary's brother, police said.

Chaudhary and five others have been arrested.

The remaining four accused, including the councillor Rakesh Chaudhary, are on the run, police added.
