New Delhi, Jun 18 (UNI) Former UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her sister-in-law and BJP MP Mankeka Gandhi and Mathura lawmaker Hema Malini were among the three prominent faces who took oath as members of the august House on Tuesday.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi's oath taking was greeted by thumping of desks by members from Congress, DMK and Trinamool Congress while her son Rahul Gandhi was seen happy and smiling taking note of the joyous occasion.
The newly appointed Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stood up while thumping the desk in honour of former Congress chief.
Sonia Gandhi's oath taking was immediately followed by Maneka Gandhi, BJP MP from Sultanpur. There was a momentary lighter mood as the former Union Minister had to walk back to her seat to pick up her spectacles.
Her party colleague S S Ahluwalia came forward passing the specs.
Ms Maneka later exchanged pleasantries with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Among others actress-turned-politician Hema Malini also took oath.
The post lunch session marked exchange of pleasantries amid mild argument on sloganeering. Most BJP members while taking oath raised slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
Among them Swami Sakshi Maharaj said, 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and "Jai Shri Ram' and he was quickly supported by a few members saying 'mandir wohi banayenge'.
There was mild protest from BJP benches for certain remarks from Samajwadi Party member Shafiqur Rahman Barq.
However, K Suresh, who was on chair ruled that only the specified text of oath will go on record and he urged members from both sides to avoid raising slogans.
Film star-turned-politician and Gorakhpur MP Ravindra Shyamnarayan alias Ravi Kishan took oath in Hindi.
He later also raised slogan hailing Baba Gorakhnath.
