Newborn dies after being shuttled between wings of government hospital in UP's Bareilly
Bareilly, June 20 (IBNS): In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, a four-day old infant died after being shuttled between the wings of a government hospital, media reports said.
The child, which was born on Jun 15, was brought to the hospital by her parents with breathing problems.
However, the first wing, which was dedicated to male, directed the parents to go to the one for females. Though the couple, who are farmers, went to the other wing but could not admit their daughter Urvashi due to shortage of beds.
They were again instructed to take her back to the male's wing. By the time the child was taken back to the male wing, she died.
"We were made to run around for over three hours, because they simply refused to admit her. Finally, we decided to take her back home, but she died on the hospital stairs," said Kusma Devi, the child's grandmother, as quoted by NDTV.
What actions have been taken?
The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended the CMS of male wing of the hospital while departmental action has been initiated against the CMS of the female wing.
"I have ordered suspension of CMS of Male Hospital Bareilly on the negligence of duty and have ordered for departmental proceedings against CMS of Women Hospital. Any insensitivity by Govt. officials will not be tolerated in #NewUP" Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted.
