Ram Vilas Paswan files nomination for by-election to RS

Patna, Jun 21 (UNI) Lok Janshakti Party chief and union Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today submitted his nomination paper for by-election to sole Rajya Sabha seat in Bihar.

Paswan filed his nomination papers before Bihar assembly secretary cum returning officer.

Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) president Nitish Kumar, union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai, state road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav, state energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and other senior NDA leaders were present on the occasion.

The by-election to Rajya Sabha in Bihar was necessitated after the seat fell vacant following election of union law minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad to Lok Sabha from Patna Sahib.

The last date for filing nomination papers for by-election to Rajya Sabha is June 25 while the scrutiny of papers would be done on June 26. The last date for withdrawal of nomination paper is June 28.

It is expected that Paswan would be elected to upper house of the Parliament from Bihar unopposed.

The votes would be cast for filling up sole seat of Rajya Sabha in Bihar only when somebody else files nomination paper for the seat.

The date for voting has been fixed on July 5 till 4 P.M.
