Rajasthan: Tent collapse in Barmer leaves 14 dead, PM Narendra Modi condoles
Barmer, Jun 23 (UNI/IBNS): A tent collapsed in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Sunday and left at least 14 people dead and 50 others hurt, officials said.
The mishap occurred during a religious congregation at Jasol village in Balotra city of the district.
Sources told UNI, hundreds of devotees had gathered to hear the 'Katha' (religious story) of Mata Rani Bhatiyani Ji.
The tent, under which they had congregated, collapsed after a storm and heavy downpour swept the area.
The tent came in contact with current, leading to death of 14 people and injuries to more than 50.
The officials of district administration and police rushed to the spot and carried out relief works.
The injured have been admitted to Nahta hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet condoled the loss of lives in the incident.
