Srinagar, Jun 28 (UNI) A youth was critically injured when security forces burst teargas shells and fired to disperse demonstrators, who tried to disrupt an operation against militants in central Kashmir district of Budgam on Friday.

Official sources said scores of youth hit the streets at Kralpora Checkpora in Budgam and tried to march towards an encounter site in the area after news about the death of a militant spread on Friday morning.

However, security forces deployed in the area swung into action and tried to stop the demonstrators from moving ahead. As the demonstrators did not back down, security forces, burst teargas shells and fired to disperse the protestors, who resorted to stone pelting.

They said a youth, identified as Shabir Ahmad, received a bullet injury to his lower abdomen. The injured was immediately taken to a SHMS hospital, where his health condition is stated to be critical.

They said a joint Cordon and Search Operation was launched by the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF in the wee hours Friday at Kralpora Checkpora in Budgam, following inputs about presence of militants in the area.
