Amit Shah reprimands Delhi top cop over Hauz Qazi clashes

New Delhi, July 3 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reprimanded Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik for the communal clashes which took place in Delhi's Hauz Qazi area on Sunday evening, media reports said.

Reports said Shah rebuked the top cop over delayed action in containing the clash.

"I have briefed him about the situation here. Things are now normal in the Hauz Qazi area. Four people have been arrested," Patnaik, who spoke to reporters after his meeting with Shah, has been quoted by Times Now.

Shah met the Police Commissioner after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by one Alok Srivastava in the Delhi High Court seeking a court-monitored investigation into the communal clashes which had reportedly led to the vandalisation of a temple.

The vandalisation of the temple had occurred after two groups belonging to different communities had a clash over a parking issue in the same area.

Petitioner Srivastava wants an investigation to find out whether there was any conspiracy to inflame communal tensions.

On Tuesday morning, members of the two communities had agreed to defuse the prevailing tension and also had set up a committee which will fund the money required for the renovation of the vandalised temple.
