Former MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup is new secretary of Overseas Indian Affairs
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI): Senior diplomat and former spokesman to the Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup has been appointed as Secretary, Overseas Indian Affairs, according to an official order.
The appointment was cleared by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, the order said.
Swarup, a 1986-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, is at present India's High Commissioner to Canada.
The appointment of Swarup will come into effect from August 1, 2019, the order said.
