Mumbai: Death toll in Dongri building collapse touches 13

Mumbai, July 17 (IBNS): The death toll in the Mumbai building collapse incident has touched 13 as rescue workers worked through the night to pull out those trapped under the debris, media reports said on Wednesday.

More than 40 people are feared to be trapped under the debris.

Nine people have been rescued so far.

Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force, joined by residents of the south Mumbai neighbourhood are working to rescue the people trapped under the debris.

The 100-year-old building collapsed on Tuesday.

"Around 15 families were residing there," Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the tragedy.

"Collapse of a building in Mumbai’s Dongri is anguishing. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I hope the injured recover soon. Maharashtra Government, NDRF and local authorities are working on rescue operations & assisting those in need: PM @narendramodi," PMO India tweeted.
