Swacch Bharat: Tharoor 'thanks' PM Modi

New Delhi, Oct 26 (IBNS): Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, who recently cleaned the Vizhinjam beach in Kerala recently, 'thanked' Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating his move.

Nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tharoor on Saturday took up the  ‘Swacch Bharat’ (Clean India) challenge as he cleaned the Vizhinjam beach in Kerala.

Tharoor on Sunday tweeted: "Thank you @narendramodi ji. Here's a video of my clean-up & a request to you (also coming by letter)."

Praising Tharoor, Modi on Saturday had tweeted: "A great effort by @ShashiTharoor! His active participation in Swachh Bharat Mission is very encouraging. #MyCleanIndia."

Tharoor had recently received flak from his own party's Kerala unit for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India campaign under which he was chosen by the PM to take the idea forward with his own contribution.

The Congress party even removed him as the spokesperson.

Kerala Congress president V M Sudheeran had earlier slammed Tharoor by saying that it was Congress which sent him to Parliament and so hence should not go against the party line.
