No knowledge about Burdwan Railway Station's name change: Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, July 22 (IBNS): Reacting to the Centre's move to change the name of Burdwan Railway Station in West Bengal, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she has no knowledge of it.
Also the Chief Minister said the Centre must first ask the State before changing any name.
"I have served as the Railway Minister for two terms. As far as I know, the Centre must get the nod from the state government before changing the name of any station. There should be no mixing of government and party. The government and democracy continue to run while a party will come to power and go," Mamata said at state headquarters Nabanna.
Recent media reports have claimed that the Burdwan Railway Station is likely to be renamed after freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt.
Last year, the Mughalsarai Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh was renamed after former leader of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
