Mamata writes to PM Modi against corporatization of ordnance factories

Kolkata, July 23 (IBNS): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to not let ordnance factories in India be privatised.

"I have been receiving reports regarding a decision that the Government of India has apparently been taking to corporatize all the Ordnance factories, including the Ordnance Factory Board with its headquarters in Kolkata. It is also being suggested that this will ultimately lead to privatisation of these great national assets," she said.

Mamata went on to add that the 41 factories across the country produced arms and ammunition that helps our armed forces protect the country.

She said she was "shocked and surprised" how the Centre could decide on such a matter without consulting all stakeholders, including the respective state governments. Her government had not been informed of any such development, she informed.

"I would therefore request you to kindly stall and reverse this process of corporatization and privatisation in the greatest interest of the national security and defence of our country," she added.
