Kolkata, Jul 26 (IBNS): July 26th is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate the Indian Army's victory in this epic conflict. This year, the 20th Anniversary of victory in ‘Operation Vijay' is being celebrated with the theme ‘Remember, Rejoice and Renew’ i.e. Remembering the martyrs, ‘Rejoice’ by celebrating the victory and ‘Renew’ our resolve to safeguard the honour of the Tricolour.
The objective of these celebrations was to evoke feelings of nationalism and patriotism through nationwide campaigns especially amongst the youth and to pay homage to the valiant soldier whose sacrifices made this victory possible.
The events were planned to highlight the stories of valour of our brave soldiers and rekindle pride amongst the youth of our country and inspire the future generation.
The celebrations for the year 2019 were spread over the week from 21-26 July 2019 and a number of events were organised at all locations within the Eastern Command theatre. Major events were "Run for Fun", motivational lectures at schools and colleges, Red FM Radio programme and Wreath Laying ceremonies at all Headquarters.
Run for Fun or ‘Ek Daud Shaheedon Ke Naam’ held on 21 July witnessed large participation by officers, JCOs and OR including their families. Motivational lectures were organised at schools and colleges inculcating a sense of pride and gratitude. Red FM, Kolkata organised a dedicated programme over the week from 21- 26 Jul in the honour of our brave hearts which included interviews of service personnel.
A grand finale of the show was held at Albert Ekka Auditorium on 25 July.
Lt Gen MM Naravane, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command, laid a wreath at Vijay Smarak, Fort William Kolkata, on Friday and paid homage to the martyrs, honouring their supreme sacrifice during ‘Operation Vijay’.
He urged All ranks to carry forward the legacy established by the immortal soldiers and continue serving the nation with renewed vigour and dedication.
