Thane, Jul 29 (UNI) A villager who murdered his wife and was lodged in the police lock-up for interrogation attempted suicide in the locker itself , the police said.

Police said on June 19 an accused Rajendra Krishna Patil ( 43) of the Hajimalang Wadi murdered his wife Vaishali (32) by hitting her with a sickle, in the presence of their two-year-old daughter and locked the house and left the house.

The couple used to quarrel over petty issues.

When the father of the victim who was passing by saw his second daughter aged six who returned from school crying outside the house, he inquired about her parents and she drew a blank.

When the complainant saw the accused near the bus stop and enquired about his wife he informed him that due to frequent quarrels he had killed his daughter. Later, the police were called in and door was broken open and the body removed out. An offence under section 302 ( murder ) of the IPC was then registered with the Hill Line police station.

In connection with the crime, the accused was arrested and lodged in the lock-up.

It was last night at around 2000 ,the accused pulled out the wall tile in the lock-up and hit it on his head and attempted to commit suicide, the police said.

The guard on duty who went for checking the lockups observed it and pulled him out and now he has been hospitalized for treatment, the police said.
