Congress let in, Police detain Left leaders in Parui

Kolkata, Oct 29 (IBNS): Police and political parties had a heated debate on Wednesday when the latter tried to enter Makhra village near Parui region in Birbhum district of West Bengal which was marred by violence on Monday media reported.

According to TV reports, representatives of three major political parties – Congress, BJP and Left went to Makhra and Choumandalpur villages under Parui to access the situation there.

But police resisted them outside the village. Reports said, police informed the leaders that since local administration has imposed

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 in the village, they cannot enter.

But later, police is learnt to have let Congress-representatives led by MP Abhijit Mukherjee, son of President Pranab Mukherjee to enter the Choumandalpur village.

Reports said, soon after that, when the Left team led by Rajya Sabha MP Ritobroto Bhattacharya tried to enter the village, police resisted them.

Media reported that left leader indulged in a heated verbal exchange with the police, following which police detained 10 left leaders including Ritobroto.

It has also been learnt that BJP representatives were also restricted to enter Makhra.

In the mean while, two days after Makhra violence, police on Wednesday has reportedly arrested 20 persons in connection with the case.

Parui PS has also erected a temporary camp inside Makhra village to de-escalate the tension.

According to media reports, violent clashes erupted between villagers and armed miscreants on Monday in Makhra village which resulted in the death of 3 persons and left over a dozen injured.

According to reports, the miscreants entered the village and hurled bombs, fired gunshots, burnt and ransacked houses.

The villagers also retaliated to the attacks.

The police, however, remained inactive throughout the violence, the villagers claimed.

The victims were identified as Tausif Sheikh, Sheikh Mozzameil and Sulaiman Sheikh.

The incident occurred three days after miscreants attacked police personnel and injured the Officer-in Charge of Parui PS by hurling bombs during a raid at Parui.
