Guwahati, Aug 10 (IBNS): A local court in Assam’s Nagaon district sentenced a man to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his minor daughter for last two years.

The Additional District and Session Judge Court on Friday had sentenced the accused person to life imprisonment under Section 6 of POCSO Act and slapped a fine of Rs 2000 on him.

The court also directed the District Legal Service Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.

After death of her mother, the 9-year-old minor girl was repeatedly raped by her own father for two years and the entire incident came to light after the victim girl fled her residence on April 24, 2017 and narrated her agony to two nurses of a government hospital.

The nurses had immediately contacted the Child Line which rescued the girl and also lodged a complaint at the Morikolong Police Outpost.

Later, the case was transferred to the Nagaon Sadar Police Station and the police had submitted a charge sheet before the court within 37 days.

A police officer of Nagaon Sadar Police Station said that, the accused person had repeatedly raped his own daughter for two years after death of his wife.

“She was physically and mentally tortured by her father. After completing the investigation, we had submitted the charge sheet within 37 days,” the police officer said.
