Mamata has a habit of hitting streets: Bengal BJP mocks TMC's dharna against IT Dept
Kolkata, Aug 12 (IBNS): Mocking the Trinamool Congress' proposed dharna (sit-in protest) against the Income Tax Department on Tuesday, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has a habit of the hitting streets.
When asked about the dharna, which will be staged by the Trinamool Congress Banga Janani Wing, Ghosh on Monday said, "Mamata Banerjee never gives any calculation. When anyone asks for it, she resorts to agitation. She has a habit of hitting the streets and always looks for such an opportunity. The government has every right to ask for the income tax papers. Mamata's attempt to stall it indicates her party is involved in any sort of corruption."
"Mamata is habituated to stand for corruption and wrong doings," he added.
Mamata had created the Banga Janani Wing after the Lok Sabha polls 2019 which saw the BJP snatching a huge ground from the Trinamool which didn't see any major loss since 2006 Assembly polls.
Mamata, who heads the Trinamool, tweeted, "The Income Tax Dept has issued notices to many committees who organize Durga pujos, asking them to pay taxes. We are proud of all our national festivals."

She added, "These festivals are for all and we do not want any pujo festival to be taxed. This will be a burden on the organizers. #Bangla govt withdrew tax, which was earlier there, on Ganga Sagar Mela. We protest and demand ‘no taxation on Durga pujo and Durga pujo committees ’."

In the Durga Puja last year, the Mamata government had given Rs. 10,000 rupees to all puja committees as a dole. However, the BJP had repeatedly accused the Trinamool government of stopping the immersion of Durga idols for Muslim festival Muhurram.
The dharna will take place at Subodh Mallik Square from 10 am to 6 pm. In February, Mamata had staged a dharna in downtown Kolkata against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) attempt to question then Kolkata top cop Raeev Kumar over his involvement in chit fund cases.
BJP smells power in West Bengal
Also Ghosh said on Monday that the Bengal BJP would try to get more than 200 seats in the upcoming assembly elections, which are not appearing as a smooth sail for Mamata after her party's tally came down from 34 to 22 in the General Elections 2019.
When asked by IBNS whether the BJP has any target for the Assembly polls, Ghosh said, "We will try to get a sufficient majority in the 2021 assembly polls to ensure a smooth running of government. We haven't set a target as of now but would definitely like to cross 200 seats so that a good government runs in West Bengal."
In the Lok Sabha polls this year, the BJP bagged 18 seats, just five less than the target set by BJP national president Amit Shah long ago.
