Maharashtra: MNS activist commits suicide

Thane, Aug 21 (UNI) A 27-year-old MNS activist committed suicide at his residence in Vitava of Kalwa , the city police said.

Getting the news, the MNS leaders including the district chief Avinash Jadhav rushed to the Kalwa Civic Hospital where his body was taken for a post-mortem.

Police said around 2200 hrs on Tuesday the MNS activist Pravin Chowgule doused himself in kerosene and set himself afire and died.

MNS spokesman Nainesh Patankar told this correspondent that the victim was totally depressed over the ED notice to Raj Thackeray and took this extreme step, he said and appealed to the MNS activists not to resort such steps.

Prior to the suicide, even on Tuesday there were several posts on FB account of the deceased in which he expressed serious concern and anger over the notice to Raj Thackeray. He also abused in slang the ED for the notice itself.

The deceased used to live alone and operated tourist vehicle and drink heavily.

On earlier occasions also, he attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on himself, cutting the veins and also tried to hang himself to death the police said, based on the input from the neighbours.

A case of accidental death was registered and further investigation is on, police added.
