Guwahati, Aug 23 (IBNS): After an army’s retired officer Md Sanaullah, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Border Security Force (BSF) has now declared as a ‘foreigner’ by a Foreigners’ Tribunal in Assam.
A Foreigners’ Tribunal in Assam’s Jorhat district has declared Assistant Sub-Inspector of BSF Muzibur Rahman and his wife as foreigner.
Muzibur Rahman and his wife were declared as foreigner despite his parents and siblings being listed as Indian.
According to the reports, the Foreigners’ Tribunal had declared Muzibur and his wife as non-Indian in an ex-parte or one sided judgement in July last.
Muzibur Rahman is currently posted in Punjab and his family members are living at Udaypur-Mikirpatty of Merapani area in Assam’s Golaghat district close to Assam-Nagaland border.
The BSF’s Assistant Sub-Inspector came to know about the judgement when he came home on leave in July last week.
“My family did not receive any notice issued by the Foreigners’ Tribunal. Apart from it, our village headman also did not inform me about this when I was on duty. We have the land documents of 1923 and many other documents before 1971. I am a genuine Indian citizen, but it unfortunate that, I was declared as a foreigner,” Muzibur Rahman said.
He further said that he had already moved to the Gauhati High Court.
It is to be mentioned that, on May 23, Md Sanaullah – a retired army officer was declared as a foreigner by a Foreigners’ Tribunal and sent him to a detention camp in Goalpara.
About a week later, Md Sanaullah was walked out from the detention camp after the Gauhati High Court granted bail.
100 Foreigners’ Tribunals are now functional in Assam and the state government is going to establish 221 more Foreigners’ Tribunals in the state.
