Asansol, Aug 25 (UNI) TMC Councillor Md Khalid Khan of West Burdwan municipality was shot dead in front of his younger brother near their home, while a powerful explosion ripped through the roof of a TMC leader in Birbhum as political extermination continued to rock West Bengal for past four months.

Khalid was shot twice, on his leg and chest from close range by three motorcycle-borne assailants near his house late last night at Monberia under Barakar block in Asansol police jurisdiction.

Middle age Khalid, Councilor of Asansol Municipality's Ward No. 66, was roaming around his house after dinner when the armed youth on the two-wheeler stopped near him and first shot on one of his legs.

When he fell on the road, Khalid received another shot on his chest from close range.

He was declared brought dead at the Asansol Zilla hospital by the medics.

Municipal mayor Jitender Tiwari and Borough chairman Md Gulam Swayar visited the scene of crime in the midnight.

Arman said his elder brother was shot dead in front of him before he could help. He said of the three, two got down from the bike and one of them shot twice on the TMC Councillor.

Police investigating the murder were trying to ascertain if there were any personal enmity behind the killing as the victim's father also came under attack.

In another incident, the house of a TMC leader was partially damaged after an explosion took place at Boira gram panchayat area under Kankortala in Birbhum district on Saturday evening.

Panchayat member Mohiboor's house was damaged as the roof ripped apart, triggered by the blast.

District police chief Shyam Singh said they were investigating the blast with the help of forensic experts.

TMC leader Bikash Roy Chowdhury charged the BJP for the explosion.

On the other hand, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said the TMC was behind the blast as whole Birbhum district has been under the terror from the TMC's goons.
