Article 370: J&K state flag removed from civil secretariat building
Srinagar, Aug 25 (IBNS): Days after Article 370 was scrapped by the Indian government, the Jammu and Kashmir state flag has been taken off the civil secretariat building in Srinagar city, media reports said.
Following the move, only the Indian national flag will remain on the civil secretariat building.
Official sources in the Jammu and Kashmir administration have confirmed to India Today TV that only the national flag will be seen at all government offices in the state from now on.
"The removal of flag is in continuation of abrogation of Article 370 and not dependant on official bifurcation from October 31," said a top source in the J&K government to India Today.
"Access by Parliament is already given (on abrogation) and the national flag is expected to take precedence at all government offices," confirmed another top source in the administration," the source told the magazine.
It has been weeks since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government made major announcements by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A that had granted special power to the former state.
The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.
Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.
Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
