Maharashtra: Three convicted for abusing,molesting Adivasi woman

Thane, Aug 30 (UNI) A 46-year-old farmer from Dabhad of Bhiwandi city here on Friday was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment as he was found guilty of the offences punishable under the Atrocities Act.

In his order,Judge G P Shirsat also fined the accused Devidas Ramchandra Patil, a sum of Rs 5,000.

Two others who were also tried along with Patil, both labourers Sainath Savra (27) and Santosh Gopinath Waghe (40), who were found guilty of molesting the victim, an Adivasi woman have been awarded rigorous imprisonment of one year and also a fine of Rs 1,000 each.

The court ordered that the fine amount must be given to the victim.

Appearing for the prosecution,the Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale told the court that the victim,an Adivasi woman on April 9 of 2014 was sitting on the steps of her house when the trio came there,and Patil abused her in slang.

The other two molested her thereafter, the court was told.

In his order,the Judge noted,"On considering above all facts and circumstances and after carefully going through the entire evidence of the prosecution, so also case laws and defence of the accused,I find that the prosecution has brought on record concrete evidence of the complaint witnesses and Investigating officer and their evidence is corroborated to each other."

"After going through the evidence of prosecution witnesses, I come to the conclusion that the prosecution has established the ingredients of the offence punishable under IPC and the SC and ST Act,"the Judge held.
