Guwahati, Sept 1 (IBNS): A teacher fainted at a NRC Seva Kendra in Assam’s Kamrup district after he found that names of his two children were not present in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list which was published on Saturday.

Names of over 19 lakh people were not present in the list.

Hanif Uddin, a teacher and resident of Tupamari village in Kamrup district, went to a local NRC Seva Kendra when he found that names of his two children were excluded from the list.

Some locals rescued the teacher and rushed him to Tupamari health centre for treatment after he fainted.

Later, the doctor referred the teacher to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

“His son and daughter’s name were not listed in the complete draft NRC. He came to this NRC Seva Kendra to find out names of his children in the final NRC. When he found that his son and daughter’s name were not listed in this list also, he felt ill and fainted. We had immediately admitted him at Tupamari health centre and later doctor referred him to Guwahati Medical College Hospital,” a local youth said.

Assam on Saturday published the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) by leaving out over 19 lakh people.

Out of 3,30,27,661 applicants, 3,11,21,004 individuals found their names in the final NRC list.
