Guwahati, Sept 2 (IBNS): Retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Sabindra Sharma is among the 19 lakh people whose name was missing from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list that was published on Aug 31.

Sabindra Sharma is a resident of Biswanath Bahubazar area in Assam’s Biswanath district.

His father Tez Prasad Sharma is a freedom fighter and he received the President of India award in 2017.

“I was shocked after I didn’t find my name in the final NRC list,” Sabindra Sharma said.

Sabindra Sharma had joined the Indian Air Force in 1980.

After serving at the Indian airspace for 37 years he retired last year as a flight lieutenant.

“I retired from the IAF as a flight lieutenant last year. My father is a freedom fighter and he is still alive and he is now 97 years old. All of my family members, including my parent, wife, son-daughter, were included in the list, but my name was missing. I don’t know why my name was not listed. After receiving notices, I appeared for three hearings and the officials were also satisfied with my documents. I was deployed in 13-14 places of the country – Tezpur, West Bengal, Bhutan (on deputation), New Delhi, Srinagar, Jammu, Rajasthan.... I was conferred with the President of India award by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2017,” Sabindra Sharma said.

Assam on Saturday published the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) by leaving out 19,06,657 persons.

Out of 3,30,27,661 applicants, 3,11,21,004 persons were found eligible for inclusion in final NRC.
