Turkish duo arrested in Mumbai for 46 ATM frauds in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Assam police, with the help of Mumbai police, have arrested two key members of an ATM hacker gang from a hotel Colaba area in Mumbai.

The duo was identified as Turkish national Abdul Halik Yurgan (42) and Eurah Igdi (33). They were found to be involved in 46 cases of ATM frauds in Guwahati.

According to the Guwahati city police, they had installed skimming machines in ATM kiosks, spy cameras and cloned debit and credit cards to steal money.

Guwahati city police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said that, a total of 46 such cases have been registered at different police stations in Guwahati.

“They had installed skimming machines and spy cameras at three-four ATMs in Guwahati and collected data and withdrawn money from different locations. A total number of 46 such cases were reported in Guwahati and around Rs 16.86 lakh cash withdrawn. We had recovered the skimmer machines installed in ATM kiosks from three locations (Beltola, Hatigaon and Lachit Nagar). When we analysis the CCTV footage we found some suspicious persons who were allegedly involved with it. When we found more information and monitoring them, we received information the gang was in Mumbai. Immediately, we contacted with Mumbai police and provided them the locations, detailed information about the persons. Later, the Mumbai police had arrested duo. Our team went to Mumbai to bring them to Guwahati. We hope that, we will get more information about other members of the gang,” Deepak Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Assam cyber police led by inspector Rajib Borah on Thursday reached in Mumbai and took transit remand of the duo and they will be produced in a Guwahati court.
