Lucknow, Sep 6 (UNI) Senior Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer and Director of State Urban Development Authority (SUDA) Umesh Pratap Singh has been booked on charges of murdering his wife.
Accusing the IAS officer of murder, the deceased's brother has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case and his immediate suspension.
The officer has been booked under several sections of the IPC in connection with the death.
Anita Singh was found dead inside her Gomti Nagar house under mysterious circumstances few days back.
Her family has accused Singh of physically assaulting Anita and having several relationships outside marriage.
The family has also raised doubts over Umesh informing police two hours after the incident, which occurred on September 1.
Prima facie, it seems a case of suicide but no note was recovered from the spot.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Anita's cousin Rajeev Singh said, ''First of all I would like to share that yesterday I had to sit for almost one-and-a-half hours at Chinhat Police Station to register my FIR. The SHO Chinhat and the IAS officer belong to the same village. Now you can very well understand the situation. Mr Singh had called up and threatened me to take back the case that I had registered, but I refused to back out."
''The condition in which my sister was found dead is suspicious. I am being denied the post-mortem report even after so many days. My sister used to be traumatised by the fact that Umesh was having relationships with many women. The matter should be given to the CBI for further investigation. Such IAS officers should be suspended and Chief Minister should intervene in the matter,'' added Rajeev Singh who is the first cousin of the deceased and is also a lawyer.
He also gave several instances of the incident, claiming that it shows that the entire matter has been cooked up by the IAS to cover up the incident.
The IAS alleged that the said cousin had no relationship with his wife for the past 22 years and suddenly he appeared just to malign his image.
"I am making arrangements for the 'Tehrvi' of my wife and now this person has come up to defame my family," he said.
