Mathura, Sep 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch the livestock vaccination scheme, from here on Wednesday.

Official sources here on Tuesday said that the Prime Minister will attend a function at the Deen Dayal Veterinary University on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with several State Ministers, would be present on the occasion. The Prime Minister is expected to stay in Mathura for around 100 minutes.

The scheme, which will cost the Central government Rs 13,343 crore, is aimed at controlling livestock diseases, especially the foot and mouth disease (FMD) and brucellosis, in the next five years.

The scheme envisages vaccination coverage to 300 million bovines (cows, bulls and buffaloes) and 200 million sheep/goat and 10 million pigs.

A decision in this regard was taken in the first Cabinet meeting of Modi 2.0 government.
