Rajnath Singh to commission submarine INS Khanderi on Sept 28
New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission the Second Scorpene-class submarine INS Khanderi into Indian Navy in Mumbai on Sept 28.
The submarine is being manufactured by the Mazgaon Dockyard Limited in joint venture with French Company Naval Group.
The minister will also launch the first ship of the Shivalik Class which is follow on Project 17A at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), Mumbai the same day, a senior defence official said.
INS Khanderi is being manufactured under the Project 75 with a total of six submarines to be built, is meant for multifarious missions like combating enemy above water and below water, surveillance, intelligence gathering and mine laying.
The commission of submarine has been delayed by a year.
The Project 75 was to be completed by 2012 but the first submarine INS Kalvari was commissioned in December 2017.
The commissioning of rest four submarines will be completed by 2022-23, as per an official.
On September 24, the defence minister will visit to Chennai to participate in Indian Coast Guard investiture ceremony, where he will inspect the Guard of Honour.
